About this blog...

'Janelle eats Alfalfa' is actually a running joke with some of my former classmates back in Secondary School (proud St. Joseph's Convent POS alumna here). Since I was in Form 1, I was teased constantly about my 'interesting' sandwich fare. A popular one was smoked turkey breast on pumpernickel with english mustard and alfalfa. Hey, what can I say... I was adventurous.

Fast forward to Form 5 Geography class where we were on the topic of cattle rearing. Most used feed in the Caribbean? You guessed it... alfalfa.

Of course, my sistah from another mistah (I'm watchin' ya Megan) sprung up from her desk and gleefully announced ''Sir! Janelle eats alfalfa!!'', which resulted in an eruption of laughter from the class. Though it was embarrassing to be the object of friendly ridicule back then, when I look back on my history of dietary choices, I couldn't be more proud of teenaged me. Alfalfa and all.

I started up this blog to document and share my journey in holistically healing my symptoms of polycystic ovaries. It does involve a total lifestyle overhaul. Gone are the days of drinking obscene amounts of alcohol, recreational smoking and binging on chips and ice cream til we're blue in the face. It's gonna be quite the experience!!

I generally don't like to use labels apart from 'plant-based'. However, the recipes you'll see here for the most part are vegan and wheat-free. I'm an advocate for REAL FOOD and as wonderful as being totally vegan is (I was vegan for 7 years and raw for 1), I can no longer eat soy or other hormone-influencing foods.

So if you see a rogue egg here or there, don't freak out! Chances are it's a rare occasion where I've received what we call in Trinidad, a 'yard fowl' egg (a free range chicken that has been raised on a foraging diet). Most recipes can easily swap for a chia or flax egg.

Just close the page if it bothers you :)

Thanks much for stopping by!!
